Hey guys, talking of Gazza Novak and that great video recently shared, I thought I'd share some of the tracks off this great album I bought called 'Dear Life' by Joe Locke's Four Walls of Freedom. The band is:

Joe Locke - Vibes
Tommy Smith - Sax
Ed Howard - Bass
Gary Novak - Drums

These are some great tracks, they really convey that loose and intense jazz feel Novak has, check out how he swings in 5/4 on the first one!

Yeah Novak is great! He's playing several dates lately at the Spud. Did anyone catch him with Abe Laboriel and Greg Mathieson in Jazz Ministry?

Glad you enjoyed it SP, its such a great cd. Gary does indeed play on the whole cd, you should try and pick it up. I think 4 Walls of Freedom have another earlier cd out also with Bob Berg on sax instead of Tommy Smith, I'm gonna try and get it also.

Hey guys - glad you like that Locke/Novak sound. We actually have a pretty decent DVD of the 2004 "4 Walls of Freedom" UK tour featuring Joe, Gary, Tommy Smith and Ed Howard on bass (it's PAL format, but I might be able to convert it into NTSC if needed).

I cannot send it out for free, but do get in touch if you are interested and I see what I can do.

The first "4 Walls of Freedom" album (with Gary Novak on drums and the late Bob Berg playing Sax) is actually just called "4 Walls of Freedom" and available here.

Hey guys, here's another great Gary Novak track. This time from the Chick Corea Quartet's 1995 recoding 'Time Warp' featuring

This is a fantastic album, but I think it may be out of print so if you ever have the chance to pick up it I strongly urge you to. There is a page on Amazon still here.

The best Gary Novak record with Chick Corea is Paint The World and actually is out of print for a long time now but is amazing in every little thing, Gary is one of the best...

Yeah paint the world by CCEBII is amazing, such a refreshing take on 'the elektric band'. Time Warp is a very different sound, more acoustic and free, with quite a lot of long solo 'cadenzas' from the sax and bass. Patitucci does a beautiful arco bass solo for one track.
